From Tour Bus to RV Life:

How a Childhood on the Road Led Me to RVing with My Family

Growing up, I thought every kid spent their weekends on a tour bus. My family—my parents, aunt, uncle, and grandparents—was a Southern gospel band that traveled all over the U.S. We had this old Greyhound bus we converted into a tour bus, and I can still remember the excitement of getting out of school on Friday and hitting the road. We’d travel all night, sing on Friday, and sometimes hit two shows on a Saturday before singing again on Sunday morning. By Monday? We’d haul it back to Michigan so I could be in class. It was a busy life, but I loved every bit of it.

Fast forward to 2020, and the world looked a lot different. My wife, Katelyn, and I had talked about RVing for years but never really jumped into it. Then the pandemic hit, and suddenly everything was shut down—except for the open road. That’s when we noticed that RV rental prices had dropped. Everyone was canceling their trips, and we realized it was the perfect time to finally give it a try.

With everything else closed, we knew RVing would give us the freedom to travel safely. Tennessee, like Florida, was still open, and I’d always wanted to take my family to Dollywood. So we packed up, hit the road, and found ourselves on an adventure that felt a lot like those weekends from my childhood—minus the gospel shows!

What started as a way to get out of the house in 2020 quickly became something we fell in love with. RVing gave us the flexibility and adventure I’d always known on that old Greyhound bus, but in a way that was perfect for our family.

Now, I want others to experience that same sense of freedom and adventure. That’s why we decided to list our rig on Outdoorsy. Whether you’re looking to relive your own road trip memories or just want a safe, fun way to explore, our RV is ready and waiting for your next adventure. You can check it out here on Outdoorsy.
